Not to be mistaken for the Australian based Avengers , this Wellington, New Zealand outfit got together in the spring of 1966 when regional promoter and entrepreneur Ken Cooper decided to open a nightclub, he would christen The Place and needed a strong headliner to perform. He recruited seasoned musicians Dave Brown (vocals, rhythm guitar), Clive Cockburn (lead guitar, keyboards, vocals), Eddie McDonald (bass, vocals) and Ian "Hank" Davis (drums, vocals), all of whom were from the city of Wellington save Davis who had recently moved there from the town of Napier.
