This San Diego foursome was originally known as the Five Pound Grin and first recorded a handful of demos under this moniker at White Whale studios in 1968. Original members included David Doran (vocals, guitar), Survivors alumnus Malcolm McCassy (vocals, bass), Mike Lawson (vocals, guitar) and Willie Kellogg (drums). Later in '68, the band issued two 45s as Pale Fire with the excellent 'Never Hurt Again' gracing the A-side of the first record.
