Ferrier, who understood the aesthetic goals of our project told me he would design the dial and asked me to return to Geneva within a month. We finally decided on the dial featured in our Limited Edition Classic Origin. Ferrier and Amandine perrier created a design that I can only describe as ravishing. The dial is a two-toned cream with a cream centre, and Arabic markers around it.
The dial is silver on the outside. It is opaline underneath the minute track and has a circular brushing. The seconds are located at six o’clock, with a complete seconds track at the compass point and four enlarged markers. Ferrier's signature Assegai model hands have been flame blued, and I think they contrast beautifully with the cream dial. Ferrier actually had made another unique dial as an alternative prototype for our collaborative project in case we decided to go in a different, equally exciting direction. This is the two-toned, salmon colored sector dial you see in this photo. The opaline section at the center contrasts with a brushed portion around its perimeter. As you can see, the design is more in line with the Aurel-Bacs watch, which features Arabic numerals inside the chapter ring of each sector. The small seconds indicator has also been omitted to maintain the overall look of the timepiece, the epitome discrete elegance. The dial is a stunning Automn (Breguet Replica) color. It makes it one of the most beautiful watches I have ever seen.
The decision was made at that time between Ferrier's new Classic Origin LF116.01 manually wound movement or his famous micro rotor Calibre FBN229.01. Or his famous micro-rotor Calibre FBN229.01. We decided to make two prototypes. A steel watch with silver sector dial and small seconds in Classic Origin manual wind configuration.
A second prototype, with a salmon dial and a two-hand configuration in a simple design. This one has the micro-rotor automatic movement. Ferrier and myself both loved this second salmon dialed watch. We decided not to launch this watch in series as its design iconography was too similar to that of a Phillips Watch. The prototype of the Classic Origin manual-wind watch is in my collection.
