This Liverpool band originally formed in 1964 as the Kirkbys with members Jimmy Campbell (vocals, rhythm guitar), John Lloyd (lead guitar, vocals), Alby Power (bass) and Kenny Goodlass (drums). In the summer of 1967, they changed their moniker to the 23rd Turnoff, which was named after a motorway sign indicating a local M6 highway exit.
The group issued their one and only 45 ('Michael Angelo' b/w 'Leave Me Here') in the fall of ‘67 with both sides of the record being excellent slices of British pop-psych written by Campbell. Unfortunately, the single didn't take off prompting the group to call it quits in 1968. Campbell went on to become a solo artist issuing three LPs and some singles into the early 70s.
