From: Dallas, TX, USA
Originally known as the Warlocks, this Dallas based band formed in 1966 and is best known for including future ZZ Top members Dusty Hill (bass) and Frank Beard (drums). Other members of the group included Dusty's brother Rocky Hill (guitar, vocals) and Doug Davis (keyboards). They were heavily influenced by the 13th Floor Elevators and peddled their infectious brand of blues style acid rock throughout the DFW area and Houston. It should also be noted that they gigged regularly wearing matching blue outfits and wigs.
The group's 1968 debut LP (American Blues Is Here!) includes a hard and heavy cover of the Tim Hardin penned classic 'If I Were A Carpenter' featured here on TWOS. Davis then left the fold and the remaining trio went on to release a second LP (American Blues Do Their Thing) in 1969, but neither album hit it big and prompted their breakup. It should be interestingly noted that later in '69 after the band's demise, Beard and Dusty Hill became members of a touring band now infamously known as the "Fake Zombies" that gigged throughout the U.S. in place of the real Zombies after their song 'Time Of The Season' had became a huge hit there and they had already broken up.
